Office Bearers Committee

The Office Bearers are elected by the Annual Convention to posts designated by the Constitution. The present Office bearers are as follows.

Party Leader - Wavel Ramkalawan

Wavel Ramkalawan was re-elected as Party Leader in November 2011. He has led the SNP since its formation in 1998.

Mr. Ramkalawan was drawn to politics and national affairs in his role as an Anglican priest when he shared the pain and suffering of the victims of human rights abuses. He started the underground Parti Seselwa movement with other dissidents and became the Party Leader when it was registered.

He joined the National Assembly in 1993 as a proportionally elected member for the United Opposition and in 1998 became the Party’s first member to win a constituency, St Louis, directly. He was elected Leader of the Opposition after the 1998 election and confirmed as Party Leader when the party took the name Seychelles National Party.

He has been the Party’ Presidential Candidate in the 1998, 2001, 2006 and 2011 elections.

Secretary-General - Nicholas Prea

Nicholas Prea was elected as Secretary General in November 2011. He was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2011.

Before joining politics, he had worked in management positions in the telecommunications, dental health and tourism fields.

Mr. Prea has had a very active parliamentary career. He was the Chief Whip for the Opposition and also a member of the IAC (International Affairs Committee), an executive member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA, Seychelles branch). He was part of the committee set to review the Assembly Standing Order and Ethics Code.

In the May 2011 Presidential elections, Mr. Prea was Mr. Ramkalawan’s Vice-Presidential nominee.

Party Treasurer - Bryan Julie

Bryan Julie was elected as Treasurer of the SNP in November 2011. He has been a member of the party Executive Committee for the past three years.

Mr. Julie is a lawyer by profession, specialising in labour legislation. After the return to multi-party in Seychelles, when labour organisation became legal once again, he started the Seychelles National Trade Union but this closed after a few months.

He has since then been involved in politics and has represented or advised a number of groups of workers in labour matters. He has also been the SNP’s International Affairs Officer and represented the party at several meetings and conferences overseas.

Deputy Secretary-General -Sandy Arissol

Sandy Arissol was elected as Deputy Secretary General in November 2011. He was the elected member for St. Louis from 2007 to 2011.

Before joining politics, he was a Laboratory Technician in the Seychelles educational system.

Mr. Arissol is at present in charge of mobilisation in the party and works closely with district representatives.

Deputy Secretary-General - Siana Bistoquet

Siana Bistoquet became Deputy Secretary General in November 2011. She became involved in the SNP through its Women’s Organisation.

She is a business entrepreneur and runs her own construction company.

Deputy Treasurer - Desheila Bastienne

Desheila Bastienne became involved in the SNP through its Women’s Organisation, where she has held the post of Treasurer for many years. Professionally she works in accounting and is employed by a co-operative banking organisation.
